My Artistic Journey

Welcome to my first blog post! I'm entering the blogosphere to stay better connected and engaged with all the amazing people who have supported my artistic journey through the years as well as to meet others who are on their own journeys and pursuing their dreams.

"Artistic Journey." I started using this phrase years ago to characterize my growth as an artist. From my college painting class – where I was told by the instructor “you can’t draw but somehow you can paint” — to being weeks away from by first gallery show (Dec. 4, check out my events page) it truly has been a journey.

There’s so much I want to learn and achieve as an artist, but this journey isn’t just about paintings, collages, marbling, etc. It’s also about my personal growth and exploration of self. Like so many people, I’ve hit roadblocks and challenges that have left me questioning who I am and where I fit in in this world. Turning to my canvases and other mediums has helped me to have some of the best conversations with myself.

Some artists use art as a vehicle for self-expression. I use it as a means of self-discovery, reflection, and escape. One of my favorite quotes puts it best:

"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."

~ Thomas Merton

I’m the ultimate work in progress. Please join me on this journey.
